Dear Andrew,

Thanks for the superb report from Chile. Perhaps you should go into journalism. I am glad and I am sure that your family and friends are thrilled that you are OK and in contact with them and the world outside Chile. Your travels remind me of my big trip throughout southern and central Europe in 1970, when I was 25. I cheated though. I was in the US Air Force, so I got a free ride to Spain where I was stationed near Madrid, as a couple of side trips to Germany. My big personal trip included Portugal, Morocco, Greece, Italy, Austria, Germany, France and England. Your solo trip to South America, especially not knowing the language, took motivation and guts. Well, from my perspective, Spanish is one of the easiest languages for an American to learn. Portuguese (as spoken in Brazil) isn't too far behind because of its similarity to Spanish. Good luck.

I think I'd love the soundslides but still love the plain ol' writing the best because then there's no chance of technology messing it up and taking weeks to fix it.
